Yorke and Mid North’s Funding Success!

The successful applications for round three of the Building Better Regions Fund were announced on March 8th 2019. Eight projects from the Yorke and Mid North Region were awarded a total of $669,410 under both the Infrastructure Projects and Community Investment streams. Both funds will contribute to over $1.3 million worth of investment across the successful projects.  The funding is provided by the Commonwealth government through the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development.

The grants approved for Yorke and Mid North projects range from:  new community facilities, marine safety, youth volunteering and town branding. The events and strategic tourism projects will add value for community members and tourists and encourage them to stay in our region by creating jobs, additional tourism products and infrastructure.

Lake Bumbunga Tourism Infrastructure and Facilities – Wakefield Regional Council

Lake Bumbunga in Lochiel is South Australia’s premier pink lake and a burgeoning tourist attraction, drawing a rapidly increasing number of visitors to the Clare Valley region each week. Currently, there are no visitor facilities at the lake and tourists and locals have noticed a need for new businesses, visitor experiences and value-add services to be established. This project will enhance the visitor experience and attract more visitors through provision of infrastructure catered to tourists needs such as toilets, picnic and playground facilities and interpretive signage. Lochiel’s pink lake is a newly discovered unique tourist attraction which presents an opportunity to entice new businesses to establish in Lochiel and surrounds. Funding granted = $236, 380

 

Sea Rescue Copper Coast Operations and Training Facility – South Australia Sea

The construction of this new facility will provide the Copper Coast region with a state of the art marine rescue operations, communications and training facility. Once completed the facility will be able to offer improved marine communications to service the boating public in the Spencer Gulf region as well as a faster response time for our search and rescue vessel to be able to respond to calls for assistance, it will also provide much improved facilities for our volunteer members. The new location of the building will be close to the Wallaroo boat ramp, one of the busiest in the state. This exposure will give the boating public using the ramp a sense of security in knowing that a rescue service is close at hand. Funding granted = $305, 590

 

Peterborough Live, Play, Stay Branding Strategy – District Council of Peterborough

The project will engage a consultant to develop a branding strategy for the Peterborough region. Funding granted = $17, 915

 

Building a culture for encouraging regional youth into volunteering – Central Local Government Region of South Australia Inc.

The project will undertake research on youth volunteering in the Mid North region of South Australia. The research outcomes will be utilised to implement plans for creating a youth volunteering culture in the region. Funding granted = $17, 000

 

Clare Valley New Tourism Experiences Opportunity Roadmap – Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council

The project will develop a roadmap to identify and assess tourism assets in the Clare Valley region that can be developed into new products and experiences. Funding granted = $16, 025

 

Barunga West Council Strategic Tourism Plan – Barunga West Council

The project will develop a strategic plan that will promote and encourage growth of the tourism industry in the region. Funding granted = $20, 000

 

YOu RocK fEst – Yorke Peninsula Council

The project will deliver a free, family-friendly music festival aimed at supporting and building the local music industry, and raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing issues. Funding granted = $37, 500

 

Celebrating 100 years of Captain Harry Butler – Minlaton & District Progress Association

The project will deliver an aerobatic air show event celebrating 100 years since Harry Butler made the first flight over water in the Southern Hemisphere, heralding the arrival of civil aviation to South Australia. Funding granted = $19, 000
