Together We Can – Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) & Sureway
‘Together we can’ will support the development of a collaborative environment in the Yorke & Mid North with the common focus of working together to build the capacity and capability of the aged services sector to meet the significant workforce challenges, and demand for workers, facing the region. A locally based Workforce & Industry Development Officer will partner with aged service organisations, employment service providers, registered training organisations and government to facilitate activities and initiatives to identify, recruit, support, employ, develop and retain individuals who are the right-fit for the sector, including supporting up to 100 job seekers into employment.

On the road to a sustainable Peterborough Driver Training Program in Peterborough – District Council of Peterborough & Madec
The Peterborough Driver Training Program has been developed to support 36 disadvantaged job seekers to gain their licence and/or progress towards gaining their licence. Transport has long been identified a significant barrier to gaining employment for people living in Peterborough and surrounding areas. The aim of this project is to run a modified version of the very successful Driver Training Program Trial run in 2016, as well as working towards a sustainability model to ensure the program remains in Peterborough well into the future. There is significant need for this program for a number of reasons, but the most significant include Peterborough’s remote location, limited employment opportunities locally and limited transport options available. These along with the demographic of Peterborough and the costs associated with gaining a licence are significant barriers to employment and ones this program is trying to mitigate.

Heavy Industry & Trades – Multi Skills Program – Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North & Sureway
The Heavy Industry & Trades – Multi Skills Program has been developed to address high levels of unemployed and under-educated job seekers in Port Pirie, in sectors where there is strong industry demand for workers. The program will provide job seekers with a diverse range of industry skills, experience and support across a range of trade and heavy industry sectors, to ensure the region has a pool of work-ready people to meet the current and future workforce needs of these sectors. The program will support the following industry sectors; Engineering, Electrical & Renewables, Mining & Civil, Construction. Job seekers who successfully complete the course will have the skills required to commence entry-level positions including labourers, operators, apprenticeships, traineeships and trades assistants.

Skills to Support – Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North & Madec
The Disability Care Project will address high levels of unemployed and undereducated jobseekers in the Yorke and Mid North, in a sector that is facing significant workforce challenges and a growing demand for skilled workers. The project will provide 70 jobseekers with a diverse range of skills, experience and support across the Disability and Community Care sector to help ensure the region has a pool of work-ready people to meet the current and future workforce needs.

Activate Business Port Pirie – Uni Hub Spencer Gulf & Madec
Activate Business Port Pirie will pilot an entrepreneurial business support program for 15 job seekers aged 25+ in the Port Pirie Regional Council, assisting them to create, connect and activate their own businesses. The program aims to provide participants with intensive one-on-one coaching, personal development and practical learning, making available two collaborative training, study and internet spaces for this purpose. The program will facilitate collaborative networks and peer mentoring opportunities with business and community leaders which will provide exposure within the community. This is expected to enable participants to commercialise and kick start their new businesses, thereby reducing unemployment, activating vacant premises in the CBD and providing flow-on economic benefits to the greater Port Pirie community.

Parenting and Employment Challenge – yourtown
The ‘Parenting & Employment (12 Week) Challenge’ will provide a holistic approach engaging young parents to return to work, senior community members to mentor, and engagement of local business to address employment challenges in Port Pirie and Jamestown. The program will take a person-centred approach to identify strengths from participants, mentors and businesses. Participants will implement a work or community project to develop inter-personal and skill work-readiness development, supported by workshops and mentoring. The project includes targeted support for small and medium businesses (namely agriculture, hospitality/tourism – relevant industry growth areas within the mid north of South Australia); who are limited in their ability to support job seekers with work experience and employment due to a lack of in-house skills to effectively recruit, train and mentor new employees.
