Population & Skills Attraction
An initiative to attract new residents to the Yorke, Mid North and Southern Flinders region is being progressed by Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North. The Population Attraction Program will aim to entice skilled people to move into the region, which will be marketed as the Lifestyle Region.
An initiative to attract new residents to the Yorke, Mid North and Southern Flinders Region is being progressed by Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North (RDAYMN).
The Yorke, Mid North and Southern Flinders Region has much to offer. It supports a wide range of industries comprising a mix of small and large businesses. It is also a beautiful and enormously diverse region in which to live and play, encompassing pristine beaches, wineries, mountains and rolling rural landscapes - all this with Adelaide within easy reach. It stretches along the eastern coast of Spencer Gulf and inland including Orroroo and Peterborough in the North, down through the tourist towns of Burra and the Clare Valley, right down to the foot of Yorke Peninsula.
RDAYMN's CEO Kelly-Anne Saffin said, "Attracting skilled people with families will be important to fill the positions being created by expansion in the resources, tourism, building and farming industries in the region". Kelly-Anne went on to say, "We must be prepared with a skilled workforce if we are to see our region grow and prosper".
The Population Attraction Program will aim to entice skilled people to move into the region, which will be marketed as the “Lifestyle Region”. Much emphasis will centre on attracting people from Adelaide to the region, or attracting skilled people back to the region, encouraging them to make a lifestyle choice for themselves and their families.
Promotion will commence with a large banner attached to the shipping containers at Port Wakefield to catch the attention of tourists and others travelling on the highway. Other promotional activities will include advertisements in “SA Weekend” and “Boomer” magazines from “The Advertiser” and on the “Adelaide Now” website.
A range of brochures and a new website www.lifestyleregion.com.au has been developed to support the promotion campaign in an on-going way. The website contains an enormous amount of useful information and links. It will also provide employers in the region the capacity to register job vacancies on it.
The Population and Skills Program evolved following a range of studies, forums and market research by the Verve Consulting Group in conjunction with RDAYMN. The program supplements work already being done in the region by RDAYMN’s Workforce Development Officers to reduce the number of people leaving the region particularly its youth. Funding for the Project was provided by the South Australian Department of Trade and Economic Development.
