Booleroo Centre – Better on a Bike!
The Southern Flinders Ranges has many popular tracks that cyclists flock to every year. The rolling landscape provides a beautiful backdrop for heritage and natural experiences, and the town of Booleroo Centre has now added to the many touring options in the region with their new ‘Booleroo Historic Cycle/Drive Trail’.
Media Release, Friday 7 January 2011
Booleroo Centre resident and Councillor with the District Council of Mount Remarkable Cr. Colin Nottle is pleased the trail has been developed. “Booleroo’s historic cycle/drive tour is now finished. There is no cost – [travellers] grab a brochure from various tourism outlets or in Booleroo and use it to self cycle/drive. [It gives] the traveller a glimpse of Booleroo’s past and how Booleroo got to where it is now”.
Several interpretive signs give cyclists and scenic drivers information on the heritage of the region. The trail is well marked and can be enjoyed as a brisk morning ride or can be undertaken in a relaxing day. The trail is a good way to encourage visitors to explore Booleroo Centre with its agricultural heritage as part of their Southern Flinders Ranges experience, and as there are wineries, art galleries and other attractions in the wider region, visitors have much to enjoy during their stay.
Stephen Schwer, Tourism Development Officer with the Southern Flinders Regional Tourism Authority, commented that the brochure is yet another reason for visitors to stay longer in the region. “This brochure is a great example of how keen residents of the Southern Flinders Ranges are to encourage tourism industry growth. This was a project that the Booleroo Centre Progress Association developed with help from the District Council of Mount Remarkable. Cyclists were already starting to become aware of Booleroo Centre, with the mountain bike trail at Booleroo View B&B and the BMX track in town – this is another trail that cyclists can try whilst viewing beautiful Flinders Ranges scenery”.
The brochure is able to be collected at many tourism outlets around the Southern Flinders Ranges, or from the business outlets in Booleroo Centre. It’s another reason that the Southern Flinders Ranges is experienced better on a bike!
