Current Projects

Population and Skills Attraction

The purpose of the project is to attract skilled people from within South Australia (including returning locals), Interstate; and Overseas to permanently reside in the Yorke and Mid North region of South Australia. The reason this is being done is because we have an aging population, baby boomers are retiring and new industries developing within the region which means we will have an insufficient supply of skilled people.

The problem of insufficient skills is being tackled by a couple of prime strategies. First we need to develop the skills of people already in the region along with strengthening youth retention. This task is being pursued by our 3 workforce development officers. The second strategy is to attract the people with the required skills, hence this project.

Funding of $110,000 was received from the South Australian government through its South Australian Strategic Plan (SASP) Regionalisation Project Fund. The project was progressed by a Steering Committee.

A tender was called for a consultant to develop a Marketing Plan. This tender was won by the Verve Group. From this a range of marketing material has been prepared including the development of a website and a range of brochures.

A long term promotional campaign will continue into the future with the goal of enticing the people we need to make a permanent move to the Yorke and Mid North Region.

Mid North Broadband Project

The Mid North Broadband Project has been developed in response to the business and community need for high speed, high quality and reliable broadband services.
In partnership with Aussie Broadband the Mid North Broadband Project has developed infrastructure capable of transmitting broadband services wirelessly from point to point across the Mid North. The wireless network coverage extends beyond townships to provide high quality services to people who previously had to rely on dial up and satellite services.
The wireless broadband services that Aussie Broadband now offer through the Mid North Broadband Project meet the Australian Broadband Guarantee, providing high quality broadband services at rates equivalent to those offered in metro areas such as Adelaide.

The Mid North Broadband project has been made possible with funds from the South Australian Government, through the Broadband Development Fund and the Regional Project Fund.

The Mid North project has been developed by Regional Development Australia Yorke and Mid North, together with the Central Local Government Region of SA, the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council and the Regional Council of Goyder.

Regional Online GIS Spatial Maps Project

RDAYMN mandate for this project is to provide accurate and timely access to data focussed on the Yorke & Mid North region.  Provision and access is to occur through online GIS spatial maps detailing a range of social and economic indicators with links to the SA Easy Data website.  Maps and data will be accessible through a portal on this website.

Access to economic and social data for the Yorke & Mid North region is currently available through multiple mechanisms including electronic and hard-copy forms.  Up-to-date information (social, economic, infrastructure) for regional areas, in map form, is not currently available through one specific portal and often requires accessing information through a range of sources.

Approximately 65 spatial maps will be available in pdf downloadable form, with links to the SA EasyData website.

This information will be publicly accessible and will provide prospective industry, business and the community with a broad range of social and economic information and is expected to be available online by 1 May 2011.

GMUSG Resource Conference and Trade Display

Port Pirie will this year host the Global Maintenance Upper Spencer Gulf (GMUSG) Resource Conference and Trade Display.

GMUSG is a cluster of businesses from around South Australia (most are from the Upper Spencer Gulf) aiming to win work in the resources sector.

For several years this conference has been held in Port Augusta, however for 2011 the conference will be held in Port Pirie (most likely in August). Speakers primarily come from mining companies along with various infrastructure companies plus representation by appropriate government departments e.g. PIRSA.

The trade display allows suppliers, service providers and contractors to present their capability to the mining companies and other attendees, clearly with the aim of winning business for their respective organisations.

RDAYMN will provide support and assistance to both GMUSG and the Port Pirie Regional Council in organising and running the Conference.
