Building Better Regions Fund – Round Two open

Today the Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Acting Minister for Regional Development and Acting Minister for Local Government and Territories, the Hon Darren Chester MP announced the opening of Round Two of the Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).

BBRF is a competitive, merit based grant program, which supports regional areas through infrastructure projects under the Infrastructure Projects stream and community strengthening projects under the Community Investments stream.

The Department of Industry, Innovation and Science is responsible for administering the program on behalf of the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development.

 

IMPORTANT NOTE: For both streams you can only apply if you are either a Local Governing Body (Council) or a not-for-profit organisation.

 

  1. INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS STREAM IN BRIEF:
  • Provides organisations with grants of between $20,000 to $10 million to support projects which involve the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas
  • The minimum grant amount is $20,000 / Maximum grant amount is $10 million
  • For most projects grant funding will be up to 50 per cent or up to 75 per cent of your eligible project costs. Your location will determine the percentage of grant funding you can receive
  • You may apply for a partial or full exemption to the co-funding requirement if you can demonstrate that you are experiencing exceptional circumstances

KEY Eligibility & Criteria Overview:

To be competitive you must score highly against all of the criteria:

  • The economic benefit your project will deliver to the region during and beyond the construction phase
  • The social benefit your project will deliver to the region during and beyond the construction phase
  • The value for money offered by your project
  • Your capacity, capability and resources to carry out the project
  1. COMMUNITY INVESTMENT STREAM IN BRIEF:
  • Provides organisations with grants of between $5,000 to $10 million to fund community activities in regional and remote communities
  • For projects with a total project cost of more than $20,000, grant funding will be up to 50 per cent or up to 75 per cent of your eligible project costs. Your location will determine the percentage of grant funding you can receive
  • For small projects with a total project value of less than $20,000, grant funding will be up to 100 per cent of eligible project costs
  • You may apply for a partial or full exemption to the co-funding requirement if you can demonstrate that you are experiencing exceptional circumstances

  • Must provide evidence confirming all co-funding contributions

  • Your capacity, capability and resources to carry out the project.
